THE SALTY SEAGULL GRAND OPENING

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi recently welcomed a new dining experience called The Salty Seagull which offers sandwiches, salads, and wraps. Located in direct connection to the Mary and Jeff Bell Library, The Salty Seagull hosted its grand opening on February 28th from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The grand opening featured a mural art giveaway, free merch, and free samples.

โ€œI liked the buffalo sandwiches they had,โ€ said Joseph Carrancl, a junior at TAMUCC.

Spencer Elmore, a freshman at TAMUCC, also tried the buffalo chicken sample.

โ€œThe fact that they had samples out was really good because I had been wanting to try other sandwiches, but at the same time, I was really scared because I didnโ€™t want to spend money on them if I didnโ€™t know what they were going to be like,โ€ said Elmore, whose favorite order is The Classy Italian.

Although both Carrancl and Elmore customize their orders by removing some ingredients and adding others, Elmore recommends not customizing any orders until having tried all the sandwiches as they come.

โ€œUnless you really need to โ€“ like food allergies โ€“ then donโ€™t customize your sandwich,โ€ Elmore said. โ€œBut if you can tolerate it, try it normally first and then from there, fine, tweak it.โ€

The grand opening also allowed Islanders to get a feel of the efficiency and the atmosphere. โ€œI think they need to improve the lightning or add some music to make it more welcoming, but I really like the ordering kiosks,โ€ said Carrancl.

This was one significant improvement from the Subway which previously occupied the space that The Salty Seagull now resides in. Due to the lack of kiosks, Subway would experience long lines with people flooding out the doors.

โ€œI think the kiosks were a good thing to implement so that wasnโ€™t such a big problem anymore,โ€ said Elmore. โ€œI really like The Salty Seagull. I think Iโ€™ve been there, like, 3 times this week.โ€

With its memorable seagull mascot and extensive and customizable food options, The Salty Seagull may be Islander-approved.
